Crowns/Caps

Crowns (sometimes called caps) are used to restore individual teeth that are badly decayed, broken or cracked, or weakened by a large filling or by root canal therapy.

At Murphy Family Dental we are conservative in our use of crowns – if a filling can do the job and promises to be a lasting solution, the doctors recommend filling the tooth. But if the tooth is badly damaged or weakened by decay or trauma, a crown can mean the difference between saving the tooth or losing it.

We offer a number of alternative types of crowns – all white porcelain crowns that vitually eliminate unsightly dark lines around the crown margin, All Ceramic Crowns (Emax, CEREC), Porcelain Fused to Zirconia Crowns (Lava, Procera), Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns, and Full Gold Crowns.  There are pros and cons to each type, and our doctors are happy to consult with you, explain the differences, and help you decide on the best crown for your individual situation.

And although our doctors propose crowns to correct dental conditions that require treatment, we have to mention that our crowns are also beautiful, natural looking, and comfortable – the next best thing to a natural tooth!  Call us for a consultation to learn more.
